Classic eggnog

Eggnog is a classic English drink. This egg-milkshake with spices (vanilla, cinnamon and always freshly grated nutmeg). Eggnog is very popular in USA and Canada and is usually associated with the winter holidays.

Description of preparation:

Heat milk, sugar and vanilla in a medium saucepan over medium heat, stirring until the sugar is dissolved. Whisk the yolks in a large bowl. Pour hot milk mixture into yolks and slowly whisk. Pour the mixture into the pan and cook over low heat, stirring frequently, for about 20 minutes (do not boil). Pour through a fine sieve into a bowl. Whisk in cream, whiskey and rum. Add the milk mixture to the yolk mass and mix. Allow to cool completely. Cover and refrigerate for 1 hour (or a day). Before serving, sprinkle with nutmeg.


  • milk — 2 Liters
  • sugar — 2 2/3 Cup
  • vanilla pod — 1 Piece
  • large egg yolks — 16 Pieces
  • cold cream — 2 Cups
  • whiskey — 1/2 Cup
  • dark rum — 1/2 Cup
  • grated nutmeg — to taste 1
